Time of Reflection Quotations
“If the resurrection isn’t true, we should all go home. Religion makes a lame hobby.”
~ Jared Wilson, contemporary author and professor
“The first Christian community had a strong interest in historical reality, especially the historical reality of Jesus and his resurrection, because they believed their faith, for better or for worse, was grounded in it.”
~ Ben Witherington III (1951-present), Pastor and New Testament scholar and professor
“The friends of Jesus saw him and heard him only a few times after that Easter morning, but their lives were completely changed. What seemed to be the end proved to be the beginning; what seemed to be a cause for fear proved to be a cause for courage; what seemed to be defeat proved to be victory; and what seemed to be the basis for despair proved to be the basis for hope. Suddenly a wall becomes a gate, and although we are not able to say with much clarity or precision what lies beyond the gate, the tone of all that we do and say on our way to the gate changes drastically.”
~ Henri Nouwen (1932-1996), Dutch Catholic priest, professor, writer and theologian
“It ought to be the primary goal of every Christian to put aside confidence in works and grow stronger in the belief that we are saved by faith alone. Through this faith the Christian should increase in knowledge not of works but of Christ Jesus and the benefits of his death and resurrection.”
~ Martin Luther (1483-1546)
“No matter how devastating our struggles, disappointments, and troubles are, they are only temporary. No matter what happens to you, no matter the depth of tragedy or pain you face, no matter how death stalks you and your loved ones, the Resurrection promises you a future of immeasurable good.”
~ Josh McDowell (1939-present), Christian apologist and write
Sermon Passage
Galatians 1:1, 2:20, 5:5; 6:14-16 (ESV)
Galatians 1:1
“Paul, an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead…”
Galatians 2:20
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Galatians 5:5
“For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness.”
Galatians 6:14-16
“But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. And as for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.”
